BioBlitz 2007

Brian Bielfelt
BioBlitz Supervisor and Insects Team Leader

Brian Bielfelt - Supervising Bedford Audubon's BioBlitzBrian Bielfelt was the Hawkwatcher at Greenwich Audubon's Quaker Ridge Hawkwatch this past fall and is currently supervising Bedford Audubon's eagle survey and will be supervising the BioBlitz.

Born and raised a Floridian, Brian boasts that he has never been through a hurricane. He spent his early years in Orlando before moving out of "that urban mess" to the quiet town of Eustis. At Eustis High School, Brian was the president of the National Honors Society, the top runner for the school's Cross team two years in a row, and had several accomplishments in the Eustis Budding Artist Show.

Brian received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Florida State University. Outside of school and birdwatching, Brian was heavily involved with Christian Campus Fellowship. While there, he designed and implemented his own ecology experiment, for which  he received two scholarships and the distinction of Honors in the Major. Brian also taught two undergraduate biology classes, where the students simply called him Birdguy.

Brian has been birdwatching since for as long as he can remember. He got his first Peterson guide in third grade and binoculars by fourth. In college, Brian upgraded his binoculars and found out about e-mail groups. This really got him on the
road to serious birding. After college, Brian began to travel and has taken up many bird-related jobs to learn the birds in all regions of the country. Unlike birding trips which typically let you learn birds for a few days, Brian feels that living in a region for a few months gave him more time to learn about the birds there. Brian has lived in the Keys; eastern Oregon, SE Arizona; Corpus Christi, Texas for the hawkwatch; western Louisiana; Wisconsin/Minnesota; Ohio, and now Westchester County. Brian's life list for the US is now over 600 birds.
