Damon Oscarson
Amphibians and Reptiles Team Leader

Damon Oscarson - Amphibians and Reptiles Leader, Bedford Audubon BioBlitzDamon Oscarson has been the Land Preservation Coordinator for Westchester Land Trust since January 2005. He will be the reptiles and amphibians team leader in Bedford Audubon's 2007 BioBlitz.

At Westchester Land Trust, Damon is responsible for assessing and evaluating properties for conservation value and gathering baseline data for future monitoring of conservation easements and preserves. As WLT's land steward, Damon oversees the monitoring and management of the Land Trust's preserves. He is also their GIS analyst and generates maps and databases to more effectively document and preserve land in Westchester County. He is actively involved with the land preservation team at WLT to proactively identify areas for future conservation through easements and land acquisition.

Damon earned a Bachelor's degree in zoology in 1998 from Oswego State University, where he focused his studies on endangered turtle conservation. Since 1998, he has been very active in local conservation initiatives and previously worked for the Wildlife Conservation Society's Metropolitan Conservation Alliance on local land use planning strategies to conserve the region's vital wildlife resources. Damon is pursuing a master's degree in wetland ecology and conservation at the University of Maine, Orono. He worked closely with four towns in New England to develop best development practices for conserving vernal pools at the local level. As an ecologist, he has conducted field work in various parts of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Maine. He lives in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.
