Bedford Audubon Awards Scholarship

July 2, 2001

Bedford Audubon Society has awarded a college scholarship to Joyce Diener, a recent graduate of Fox Lane High School who will be attending the State University of New York at New Paltz. Ms. Diener wrote an award-winning essay about why she is planning to study environmental science in college.

While at Fox Lane, Ms. Diener was a member of the Preserve Our Planet Club. The club collected food and blankets for a local animal shelter and set up bird feeders on the Fox Lane campus. A variety of birds, including finches, sparrows, woodpeckers, black-capped chickadees, and American goldfinches, have been sighted at the feeders.

Ms. Diener wrote in her essay, "By learning more about the environment, I know that I can make a difference to ensure that the children of the future can go to the park or go camping and enjoy the beauty of the natural environment surrounding them."
